Terrence Blair Swanburg Obituary

Terrence Blair Swanburg

MCpl Terrence (Terry) B. Swanburg, CD Ret’d It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Terry at the age of 69 years, on March 17 2025 at 4:22 am surrounded by his family. He was born in Halifax, moved to Digby and then New Minas for the rest of his childhood. After high school he went to Acadia University for football but decided after three months that he had had enough of formal schooling. He then took his electrician training but due to a downturn in the housing market decided to join the Canadian Armed Forces. As an electrical mechanical engineer, he spent 25 years serving his country with pride. His idea of no more school was not to be as he was constantly on course learning. He served in CFB Kingston, CFB Petawawa, CFB Lahr Germany, CFB Montreal, CFB Gagetown, and finishing his career in CFB Borden where ironically, he ended up as an instructor at CFSEME for most of his time there. After retiring from the forces, he was employed at Wescam as an optical technologist for 25 years. He finally retired for good June 2024.

He was an athlete, and he played the sports he loved all his life. His travels allowed him to play these sports around the world, getting him scouted by professional European soccer teams. His mother taught him at a young age the love of golf. He passed this love on to his sons and was happiest on the golf course playing with them and their friends.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Paul and Lillian (Daley) Swanburg, his parents-in-law Stanley (Sam) and Ruby {Hancock) Milne and brothers-in-law Martin Dodge and Richard Clayton.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Faye (Milne), sons Anthony (Tony) and Andrew (Andy), and Daughter-in-law Kathryn Armstrong. Missing their Papa are Carter and Mya Swanburg,

Survived also by his siblings Perry (Lynn) Swanburg, Sally (Bill Wallace) Swanburg Wallace, Gary (Marie) Swanburg, Shelley Clayton and Sherry Swanburg, Sister-in law Marilyn (Mimi) Dodge and brother-in-law Doug (Sharon) Milne, as well as many nieces and nephews and several sons by-other-mothers-and fathers and his “work wife”.

While being posted in Germany Tony and Andy arrived keeping Faye busy while he was away on exercise or on course.

He loved coaching his sons in hockey. After joining National Campers and Hikers Association/Family Campers and RVers, he and Faye were field directors in Quebec and New Brunswick, Disaster and Safety Training Directors for Ontario, Ontario Provincial Directors and Canadian Regional Directors. Camping was in his blood travelling throughout Canada and the United States to many campouts.

He was loved by many, especially his military family, camping family (Canadian and American), work family and neighbourhood families.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Corbett Funeral Home, Cambridge, Ontario. Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at Savannah Golf Links, 1206 Cheese Factory Road, Cambridge, Ontario on Saturday April 12, 2025 from 1 – 4 pm.

Terry spent his life serving his country, taking care of his family and friends. Donations will be gladly appreciated for the Cambridge Food Bank at his celebration of life. In lieu of flowers gifts can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Foundation or a charity of your choice. Terry’s eyes have been donated to the Trillium Gift of Life for research and teaching to help the lives of many.
